He’s a big man who drew crowds with his DJ skills and now he’s ready to make a big difference for the kids of Las Vegas.

Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Shaquille O’Neal held a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss construction of a new youth center in the northeast Las Vegas Valley.

The multi-million dollar, 17,000 square foot facility will serve Communities in Schools and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. It will house the nation’s first CIS Alumni Center, which will offer academic, social, emotional, recreational and technology resources for children in grades K-12.

Last week, Clark County councilors voted to transfer nearly 5 acres of vacant land for construction of the new facility.
