NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal Reveals Details of New Youth Center in Las Vegas Valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal has revealed details of a future youth center that will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada in the northeast Las Vegas Valley.

O’Neal, a member of the Communities In Schools (CIS) national board of directors, the Boys & Girls Club Alumni Hall of Fame and founder of The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, held a news conference Wednesday to talk about the facility, the proceeds of which will benefit CIS and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.

The multimillion-dollar project will span more than 17,000 square feet and house the nation’s first CIS Alumni Center. The club is said to provide children in grades K-12 with academic, social, emotional, recreational and technological resources needed for youth development.

The CIS Alumni Center will serve former CIS students, helping them continue to grow and succeed in their personal, academic and professional lives.

During the event, O’Neal admitted that his mother was the motivation to collaborate.

“It’s just the right thing to do. There’s really no explanation. That’s what the wonderful Dr. Lucile O’Neal taught me, and anytime I can make her happy, I do something good,” he said.

After announcing the event, O’Neal handed out personalized “Shaq-packs” filled with school supplies for the upcoming school year to local students.
