MK Party writes to Parly asking that its founder Khumalo not be sworn in as an MP

JOHANNESBURG – The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party said it has written to the National Assembly not to inaugurate Jabulani Khumalo as a Member of Parliament.

The party said Khumalo was expelled from the organization and was not allowed to represent it in parliament.

However, Khumalo’s name appears at the top of the final list of people representing the MK party in parliament.

Khumalo, founder of the MK party, said he planned to attend the first session of parliament on Friday and take the oath.

Khumalo alleged that many other members were intimidated into following the party line of boycotting parliament.

“Most MPs going to Parliament were intimidated that they were not allowed to participate in Parliament. I say they must go to Parliament, people have sent them to go to Parliament and do their business, so they must not be scared.”

MK party spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela denied this, saying Khumalo did not have the authority to comment on the organization’s decisions.

“He cannot go to Parliament on an MK ticket. We contacted the Parliamentary Secretary and the Parliamentary Secretary informed him that he could not represent us.”

Parliamentary secretary Xolile George has previously said that parties cannot change their lists before the end of the year, except in the event of death, illness or resignation.
