Colts support cultural trail expansion with $100 million donation

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. and the Indianapolis Colts announced a $100,000 donation from the city’s football club to support the continued expansion of the cultural trail along South Street.

This contribution will help bring the new segment of the trail to life, reinforcing the Colts’ commitment to fostering a vibrant downtown.

Colts vice president and owner Kalen Jackson says the cultural trail is a cornerstone of the city.

“The Cultural Trail plays a critical role in making Indianapolis a more enjoyable, memorable and active place for everyone who lives in or visits downtown, especially near our home at Lucas Oil Stadium,” Jackson said in a statement. “By contributing to this South Street expansion, we hope to create a safer and more welcoming environment for our community and visitors for years to come.”

The South Street Extension will create a southern loop, connecting the Virginia Avenue corridor near the Southside and Stadium Village neighborhoods to the heart of downtown. The approximately 0.6-mile segment will extend from New Jersey Street to Capitol Avenue, improving access to key sites like Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center.

The expansion will also extend the Indiana Avenue and 10th Street segments that opened earlier this year. The total expansion adds approximately two miles to the linear park, improving connectivity between cultural districts and neighborhoods.

In addition to improved connectivity, the new segments incorporate an impressive array of plantings, including trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials, contributing to the overall aesthetic and environmental benefits of the trail.
