Old Saybrook — The search for two missing sailors at the mouth of the Connecticut River in Old Saybrook continued into its fourth day Thursday, but was unsuccessful.

Two men are missing from a boat carrying nine people that crashed into a seawall Monday evening en route to Connecticut from Block Island. Police identified one confirmed fatality as 34-year-old Christopher Hallahan of Westbrook, but have not released the names of the missing boaters.

The boat operator remains in hospital in critical condition.

The search, led by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is using underwater drones and dive teams on boats equipped with side-scan radar, which are typically used to recover bodies from the water.

The Norwich Underwater Search & Rescue team, which also included firefighters from Taftville and Yantic, assisted in Thursday’s search.
