Taylor Swift and Harry Styles may have split up over a decade ago, but their relationship hasn’t gone out of the limelight — or out of the “woods.”

In fact, NFL commentator Mike Tirico apparently made a sly reference to Swift’s 1989 song about Styles while commenting on the weather delay at Thursday’s Kansas City Chiefs game, where the 14-time Grammy Award winner showed up to cheer on his boyfriend Travis Kelce.

“Game delayed approximately 20 minutes due to weather… no precipitation is expected for the rest of the night,” Tirico announced in the first quarter of the game.

Fans of course immediately responded to the posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) commenting on the possibility that the commentator had changed the lyrics to the song.

“They just said HELP FROM THE FOREST,” one Swiftie wrote in all caps.

“OK, but did he say ‘come out of the woods’ because it’s a swiftism, or just because that’s the way to say it?” another fan asked.

“It’s not so bad that you have to take a bath,” a third person wrote next to a gif of Rihanna with the caption: “I see what you did.”

“Out of the Woods” — along with others 1989 songs like “Style” and its additional bonus tracks — have long been thought to refer to Swift’s romance with Styles, which lasted less than a year, between 2012 and 2013. (The lyric “two paper planes flying” appears to refer to the musicians’ matching airplane necklaces; while “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon / twenty stitches in the hospital room” is widely believed to refer to the former One Direction singer’s snowmobile accident.)

While Tirico isn’t the only NFL expert to reference Swift since she began dating Kelce in the summer of 2023, his mention in “Out of the Woods” gained even more attention due to Swift’s appearance at the Chiefs’ first game of the season.

The “Love Story” artist, dressed in a fitted denim ensemble — denim shorts and a denim top — with thigh-high red boots and a friendship bracelet given to her by a fan, went viral immediately upon arriving at Thursday’s game, where she was later spotted chatting with Travis’ father, Ed Kelce.
