The 47th annual Greater Altoona Golf Championship will take place this weekend.

The first round will begin at Park Hills on Saturday, with the final round taking place at Summit Country Club on Sunday. The top four male and female golfers from five clubs in the Altoona area will be eligible to play in team and individual competitions.

Last year, the event saw impressive play from both the men and women, with Scotch Valley’s David DeGol Jr. pulling off a surprise overtime win over teammate Anthony DeGol to take the men’s individual title.

Among the women, individual honours were won by Samantha Formeck of Scotch Valley.

Scotch Valley’s dominance continued in team competition, with the Hollidaysburg club taking home trophies in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The event was last held at Park Hills/Summit in 2009. That year, Artie Fink Jr. set the tournament record with scores of 66-69 at 135. Anita Jo Petrusky won the women’s championship trophy that year.
