VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, MI — Federal plans to dump mildly radioactive soil and debris left over from the Manhattan Project in a Michigan landfill hit a wall of outraged residents during a city council meeting in Wayne County.

Angry Belleville and Van Buren Township residents made it clear to federal and state officials Wednesday that about 6,000 cubic yards of debris from a New York reclamation site is not welcome in their Michigan backyard.
