Augusta leaders appear close to hiring city administrator

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Augusta Commission may be close to hiring a city manager.

The Augusta Commission will hold a special meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the agenda says the purpose is “the hiring of a city administrator.”

The city has been without a permanent administrator since Odie Donald left to work for Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

Donald was replaced in February 2022 by Takiyah Douse, who has now served as interim administrator for much longer than the year Donald served.

Earlier this year, it seemed that the commission would be ready to hire a permanent administrator, but the matter has stalled.

This came after Mayor Garnett Johnson submitted a list of finalists for the position — a list that did not include Douse, even though she had applied.

One of the finalists quickly dropped out and Douse’s name was eventually added as a finalist.

But after all these months, it’s unclear whether any of the other finalists still want the job.
