The first look at the film’s reimagined monster is sure to divide horror fans

There is a lot of buzz around next January Werewolf ManBlumhouse’s latest film to shine a spotlight on the classic Universal Monster. But this first look… well, we suspect it’s not what most of you were expecting.

The character just made his official debut at Universal Studios’ recent Halloween Horror Nights, and while this costume may not be an exact representation of what we’ll see in the final film, the design itself is dividing opinions. It certainly doesn’t look like the traditional “Wolfman,” and that seems like a creative decision that could ripple through the reboots.

Of course, it’s too late to change that now, and if nothing else, this little preview suggests that the new Werewolf will be a 100 percent practical creation; it’s clear that the blueprint is the same as the classic 1941 model, and in that respect, there are some similarities to be seen.

Few official details have been released about this new version, although we’ve heard the film revolves around a family terrorized by a deadly predator. Ryan Gosling was set to star in the previous version, but that didn’t work out.

At the beginning of this year, Werewolf Man Producer Ken Kao said: “As an outsider, I would say that, in my humble opinion, The Mummy’s Dark Universe felt like it was reacting to what was happening with all the superheroes – the MCU and the DC universe, and we know there was a lot of talk about what was happening with all of that over the last year or more.”

He added, “I guess you could call it more of a Joker approach. In my opinion, especially if you’re going to do it with the contained elements, which Blumhouse is really good at, (it) makes a lot more sense to me. So it’s a good playbook.”

The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell will be at the helm; he, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo worked on the script, which is to be a remake of the 1941 film titled Werewolf Man.

Christopher Abbott stars as Lawrence “Larry” Talbot/Werewolf, and will be joined by Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger, and Matilda Firth.

Werewolf Man is set to release on January 17, 2025. Check out the new design below and stay tuned for updates as we get them.
