Generative AI and Coding: Time to Rethink Software Development

Just ask Tom Taulli, author of numerous books on AI programming, including this year’s AI-Assisted Development: Better Planning, Coding, Testing, and Deployment.

“For example, you can ask these LLMs (large language models) to create code, and they sometimes create a framework, an imaginary library or module to do what you want,” Taulli said. (He explained that the LLMs were not actually creation (New frameworks, or rather the pretense of creating them.)

As Taulli noted, a human programmer would not even consider this, “unless (the human coding) is crazy, invents, creates out of thin air an imaginary library or module.”
