Festivals, concerts and more things to do around DC, September 6-8 – NBC4 Washington

Fall is in the air, people! Time to plan a day trip to go apple picking in Maryland or Virginia.

The Red Line closure ended just in time to catch the subway to the Bethesda Row Arts Festival, Adams Morgan Day, or the DC State Fair (yes, the borough has a state fair! It’s near the Metro Center station).

Here are four things to know for the weekend:

The most important events of the weekend

Free choice
Bethesda Row Arts Festival
Saturday and Sunday, near Elm Street and Woodmont Avenue
🔗 Details

There’s real competition for a spot at the Bethesda Row Arts Festival, conveniently located on Bethesda Row. Artists from all over the East Coast and dozens of local creators have been selected for the largest, juried art fair in the DC area. Last year, Ruth Becker invited us into her studio to showcase her creative treasures.

Jewelry, oils, watercolors, ceramics, fibers, sculptures, and many other styles will be on display—you may need both days to see it all. Opening hours: 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday.

Free choice
One Lacrosse Gathering
Saturday, National Mall, Free Admission
🔗 Details

During the first edition of the One Lacrosse Gathering Celebration, America’s oldest team sport is presented in a completely new way.

The game has its roots in Native American traditions and dates back to 1100.

The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition wants to make lacrosse accessible to everyone at the National Mall’s JFK Fields. Look for tribal community representation and social games for new and more experienced players. The Howard University women’s team will also be in attendance.

Fun fact: Lacrosse will be played at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

  • Future Scene: JFK Fields Stadium along the Tidal Basin will also host the opening of the National Mall of Pickleball later this month.

JumpDC is in the studio with News4’s Tommy McFly to perform and talk about the DC State Fair.

Free choice
DC State Fair
Saturday, 10am-5pm, Franklin Park in Downtown DC
🔗 Details

The county fair season isn’t over yet. The final weekend of the Maryland State Fair may be at the top of your list of agricultural adventures, but don’t oversleep D.C.

The DC State Fair won’t be handing out ribbons honoring sheep, but it will be a celebration of the food, products, culture, achievements and civic organizations that bring pride to DC.

The biggest attraction will certainly be the Jump DC skipping rope performance and the National Hand Dance Association performance.

Free choice
Adams Morgan Day
Sunday, noon to 8 p.m., Marie Reed School and Kalorama Park
🔗 Details

For the 46th time, AdMo invites everyone to its streets to listen to music, dance, eat something and drink beer.

It is worth noting that the legendary Blackbyrds will make a special appearance, headlining the evening on the Marie Reed School Field at 7:00 PM after a day full of international adventures at the Dance Plaza.

Stroll down 18th Street NW, check out the local shops and make new friends. Also enjoy programs at the DC Library, American University, photography exhibits, kids sports clinics and Melody Day at Kalorama Park.

Swimming pools benefit from the summer heat.

DC dogs are invited to four city pools this Saturday for the annual Doggie Day Swim. It’s free, but bring your dog’s original license and tag from DC Health.

In Virginia, you can sign your dog up to swim with other dogs at the Water Mine Family Swimming Hole in Reston on Saturday. The cost is $10 per dog, with all proceeds going to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
