Leni Riefenstahl Documentary Sells Widely in Venice and Telluride

Andres Veiel Stainless steelThe new documentary about the infamous German Nazi-era film director Leni Riefenstahl has sold well around the world following its world premiere at the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals.

Beta Cinema, which is handling worldwide sales for the film, has secured deals across Europe for the documentary, including ARP in France, Filmin in Spain, Midas Filmes in Portugal, Edge Entertainment in Scandinavia, Against Gravity in Poland, Cirko Film in Hungary, Imagine in the Benelux and MCF in the former Yugoslav territories. Longride Entertainment will release the film in Japan. Negotiations for additional territories are currently underway.

In Germany, Stainless steel The film will be released by Majestic and distributed in Italy by co-producer Rai Cinema.

Weiler and Stainless steel Producer Sandra Maischberger, acclaimed German journalist and political talk show host, spent six years sifting through more than 700 boxes of film, text, audio recordings and other documents from Leni Reifenstahl’s personal archive for the film, which aims to dispel many of the “myths” that have grown up around Riefenstahl, a director of Nazi propaganda films Triumph of the Will AND Olympiaafter the war – including that she was a naive artist, had no close contact with Adolf Hitler, and knew nothing about the Holocaust until the end of World War II.
