Business in Focus: Nathaniel Woodward, Attorney

By CJ McManus

There is a local euphemism that states that “Carbon County’s people are its greatest natural resource.” While many disagree with this statement, Nathaniel Woodward’s impressive career goes a long way toward proving its truth.

Woodward, a Price native, has returned to his roots with a mission: to open a new law firm on Main Street and help revitalize his hometown. His journey back to Price is not just a career change, but a personal commitment to the community that shaped him and that he now hopes to shape.

Woodward’s story is one of resilience and transformation. Far from being the top student in high school, he struggled academically, barely making ends meet. But a defining moment came when he became a father, igniting a new drive to succeed. That determination led him back to college, where he excelled, earning multiple academic honors at USU Eastern and eventually securing a place at Willamette University, the oldest law school west of the Mississippi. After graduation, he became a successful attorney at Smith Freed & Eberhard, where he gained a reputation as a tough litigator in civil and trial cases.

Despite the prospects of pursuing a legal career in the Pacific Northwest, Woodward felt a deep sense of responsibility to his hometown.

“I wanted to be the person who would go home and fight for it,” he said. “I’m not here just to be here, and if the city or my business has problems, I can get up and leave. No, this is where I decided to stand and fight, and I will die on this hill, helping my city, doing what I can.”

Woodward’s law firm isn’t just another business; it’s the embodiment of his commitment to the Carbon Corridor and its residents. Offering services at rates significantly lower than those in larger cities, he strives to make legal services accessible to everyone in the community. His goal is to be the first choice when something goes wrong in a family’s life—a trusted advisor who understands the unique challenges that Price residents face.

“I want my services to be affordable and accessible enough that people feel comfortable saying I’m their family lawyer,” he said. “Most people don’t have access to something like that, and I take great pride in being the person you can safely call when you need legal help.”

According to Woodward, Trust and Will services cost more than $1,500 in Provo, while he can prepare the same documents here in Price for as little as $750. “I came home to make sure that legal services were readily available and accessible in my hometown.”

Outside of his practice, Woodward is deeply involved in his community. He serves on museum boards and is actively involved in local initiatives aimed at promoting positive change. His experience working for Fortune 100 companies and representing clients in high-profile federal litigation has equipped him with the skills and knowledge to effectively advocate for his hometown. Woodward is currently serving as a defense attorney for this year’s Eastern Leaders Academy and is campaigning for the U.S. House of Representatives in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.

In Woodward, the community has gained not only an attorney, but also a passionate advocate and community leader. His return marks a significant step in the ongoing effort to restore and revitalize a town that has faced many challenges. To Thane, as his friends call him, Price is more than just a place to live; it is a cause worth fighting for, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to advance it.
