At least six Ukrainian officials, including government ministers, resigned on Tuesday and a presidential adviser was fired, in a move by the ruling party to signal a major government shake-up is underway.

The reset comes as Kiev faces increasing challenges, including daily Russian bombings, and President Volodymyr Zelensky seeks to rebuild trust in the government after two and a half years of Moscow’s invasion.

“As promised, a major government reset can be expected this week. More than 50 percent of the Cabinet of Ministers staff will be replaced,” David Arakhamia, head of the ruling Servant of the People party’s parliamentary group, wrote on Telegram.

“Tomorrow we will have a day of layoffs, and the day after tomorrow a day of appointments,” he said.

By Tuesday evening, several Ukrainian ministers had already resigned, including the minister of strategic industry, the minister of justice and the minister of environmental protection.

The head of Ukraine’s State Property Fund, Vitaly Koval, also resigned, as did Deputy Prime Ministers Iryna Vereshchuk and Olga Stephanishina.

Meanwhile, in accordance with the presidential decree, the deputy head of Zelensky’s office and one of the president’s most important aides, Rostyslav Shurma, was dismissed.

Zelensky has ordered several reshuffles since the start of the war, firing the defense minister last September after a series of corruption scandals and most recently replacing his top commander over battlefield failures.

The Ukrainian leader’s first presidential term, which began in 2019, expired in May, but he remains in office despite martial law.
